“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” (James 1:27 ESV)

OrphanCare is a matter of Christian obedience because it expresses the heart of God and demonstrates the Gospel. The heart of God is visible throughout the Scriptures as He cares for the world that He created and shows mercy to the weak. Whenever we, as former orphans, care for orphans and pursue them with the love of God these Gospel truths are lived out and the Great Commission is fulfilled.

At Living Hope we see OrphanCare happening in three distinct ways.

As believers in Christ all of us are called to prayer. Everyone of us can begin to care for the fatherless through prayer by praying for the more than 43 million orphans around the world. We can pray for their care and their salvations. We can also pray for those caring for the fatherless and those looking to bring them into their families forever.

Many people and organizations are already doing some great work to care for the fatherless around the world and in our backyard. You can partner with them to be a part of caring as well. Many of our partners are a great second step (behind prayer) as a way for you to demonstrate God’s heart to the world.

Knowing that we have been adopted into God’s family can be a great motivation for pursuing the fatherless through adoption or fostercare. Both of these options are a great sacrifice and joy to any family who will take up the challenge.
